Know Before You Go
There are no room charges for children 12 years old and younger who occupy the same room as their parents or guardians, using existing bedding.
What to expect: A winding driveway leads onto Denarau Island and to the porte-cochere of Sheraton Fiji Resort. The open-air reception and lobby area lies under vaulted ceilings with whirling fans. The reception desk lies to the right, while straight ahead a series of lounge areas where the mostly Australian and New Zealand, as well as American and Japanese, guests relax. The lobby leads through to the restaurants, gardens and swimming pool, and overlooks the ocean.
Amenity highlights: Sheraton Fiji Resort has a lagoon-style pool with dedicated children's area loverlooking the beach, where numerous water sports are offered. There is lawn bowls and a playground, and access to golf, tennis, fitness centre, and a full-service health spa. The resort has a kids' club and crèche. All children stay, play, and dine for free. Conference facilities include a ballroom, events centre, and executive boardroom. There is also a wedding chapel.
Insider tip: Sheraton Fiji Resort is half an hour's drive from the Garden of the Sleeping Giants in the highlands north of Nadi, which is worth a half-day visit. This landscaped garden has a wide variety of native Fijian plants, native forest and lily ponds, as well as an excellent collection of more than two thousand varieties of orchid. The garden was developed in the 1970s by television star Raymond Burr of Perry Mason and Ironside fame. The small house adjacent to the gardens is open to the public and houses memorabilia from the actor's life.
Some seven kilometres due west of Nadi on Denarau Island is the newly refurbished Sheraton Fiji Resort. Linked to the mainland via causeway and a three-minute complimentary shuttle service to/from Port Denarau Marina, the Sheraton Fiji completed a US$22 million renovation program in late 2008 which has incorporated expansive re-styling and redevelopment across all areas of the resort. A standout is the 1200-square-metre lagoon-style pool with a dedicated children's section adjacent to the kid's club, and a more private adults' escape area with underwater hammocks. The Link@Sheraton experienced with Microsoft is an inviting place that allows guests to stay connected while travelling by providing complimentary Internet access. It offers guests a comfortable place in the heart of the Resort lobby to catch up on e-mail, enjoy a board game, watch TV, or relax with a good book. Sheraton Fiji is part of an integrated complex which includes Sheraton Denarau Villas, The Westin Denarau Island Resort & Spa, and the Denarau Golf & Racquet Club. Guests of the Sheraton Fiji are able to make use of amenities across the entire complex including 17 restaurants and bars, a full-service health spa, an 18-hole championship golf course, and tennis courts. Kids stay, play, and eat for free (conditions apply). Cruises depart Port Denarau Marina for the Mamanuca and Yasawa Islands.
Sheraton Fiji Resort has a supervised kids' club (surcharge) with a wide range of outdoor and indoor activities and sports. There is also a playground and childrens' pool. Babysitting is available (surcharge), as is complimentary childrens' equipment such as infant beds and high chairs. Childrens' menus and special childrens' meal deals are available at resort restaurants.
Self parking: Complimentary parking in an outdoor lot adjacent to the resort.
Sheraton Fiji Resort has comprehensive conference facilities, including a 600 square metre (6,458 square feet) ballroom and the 1000 square metre (10,764 square feet) Tagamoucia Events Centre suitable for large conference and trade shows. The business centre has five computer terminals with broadband Internet access. Business services include photocopying, faxing, and secretarial services, with translation services arranged by prior request. Private Akuilau Island, a 10-minute boat-trip away is for Sheraton and Westin guest only. Complimentary transfers depart hourly. The island is ideal for picnics and themed functions.
