Domestic air travellers will see a reduction in
flights that are operated by Pacific Sun's two ATR 42 aircraft that
regularly fly between Nadi, Suva and Labasa from 1 July until
mid-August when one of the carrier’s ATR aircraft is flown to Tahiti
for mandatory heavy maintenance.
For these routes, cancellations
will affect one to two flights a day for each day of the week except
Saturdays. Travellers wishing to make use of Pacific Sun's direct Nadi
to Labasa service should particularly note that during this time, there
will not be any ATR service on the route. Instead, a smaller Twin Otter
aircraft will be used for this route.
Customers may, however,
make use of ATR service to Labasa with a Suva stopover. For Tuesdays
and Thursdays, the normal twice a day service between Suva and Labasa
will be reduced to one, and the normal 3 flights a day during weekends
will be reduced to 2 flights a day. Pacific Sun may also use a Twin
Otter aircraft on some of its Nadi-Suva service. These changes are
temporary and schedules will revert to normal once the ATR returns from
undergoing heavy C checks at the Air Tahiti hangar in Papeete in mid
August.
“The C check is due every 4000 hours or two years, whichever
is earlier,” said Jim Samson, General Manager of Pacific Sun. “While
taking an aircraft out of service means a decrease in service, this
type of regular maintenance is an essential part of our airworthiness,
safety and aircraft reliability programme.”
“As a result, customers
intending to travel from 1 July are requested to call our sales and
reservation team on telephones 6720888 or 3304388,” said Mr Samson.
“The revised schedules can also be viewed on www.pacificsun.com.fj or www.airpacific.com."
